Child Status Update Report

Typically, when a family gets the referral for their child from China, we often wonder about the child and how the child is doing. How is my child being cared for? Is my child healthy? Does my child have certain eating and sleeping habits? Is my child developing normally? Who cares for my child? Does she cry alot? Does she play with toys or have friends? What is her personality like?

The fact of the matter is, there are times that parents are not always able to get current information, because normal reports from the orphanages are often out of date, without clear medical information, current measurements, etc. When we adopted, the information handed to us from our adoption agency was over a year old. We were constantly worried about how our baby was doing.

Now you have a way to get answers. Through building key relationships, and having a personal understanding of Chinese culture, we have developed a network of researchers and points of contact within the Chinese Adoption System, that allows us to get an incredible amount of information, discreetly, professionally, and securely, without ruffling anyones feathers. The “Update Report” service has been designed to provide you answers to these incredibly pressing questions.

Our track record for doing this is now two years and hundreds of successfully completed reports. Don’t believe anyone who hasn’t used our service, as they have no idea what they are talking about. If you really want to know how well we perform, and continue to maintain strong relationships with SWI Directors and Staff, then just ask some of our current customers. We have a huge list of happy customers who will vouch for our integrity and results.

What Exactly do we do?

One of our researchers will go to the orphanage or foster family and interview the family or orphanage caretaker(s) about the child as well as take pictures of the child, their caretakers, where they are living, etc. Below are some of the questions that we realize adoptive parents would like to know the answers to. The interview typically takes an hour or so, with digital photographs of the child, his/her caretakers, and environment. After our researched is compiled and translated, it will be formatted into a customized report and a detailed description of what we found out as well as pictures will be emailed to you.

You can see a sample of what your Update Report would look like here:

These are some examples of the questions we ask during the interview process:

  • Information on the caregivers and pictures of any that you can get.
  • If it is a foster family, what do they do? What is their daily life/routine like?
  • What are the child’s likes and dislikes?
  • Who are they most attached to of their caregivers?
  • What do they eat?
  • When and where do they sleep? (pictures of this if possible) Are they with other children?
  • How long have they been with the family or at the orphanage?
  • Do they have any pets?
  • How are they bathed and do they like baths?
  • What is their personality like? Happy? Stubborn? Quiet? Shy? etc Describe the child to the best of your ability.
  • Try to get pictures of anything that has to do with the child and their current living condition.
  • Have they been ill? If so, with what?
  • Are there any concerns that the foster family or orphanage has regarding the child?
  • If it is a foster family, would they like communication from the adoptive family?
  • Do they seem bonded with the child?
  • Have they fostered other children or have other children in the home?
  • What is your perception of the foster family and their relationship with the child?
  • What are the child’s measurements? Head, chest, waist, height, weight, foot size?
  • Does the child speak? Understand when spoken to? crawl? Walk? Jump? Sit up? Play? Feed herself? Take a bottle? etc.
  • Do they have any nicknames for the child or what do they call them?

As adoptive parents ourselves, we know these are some of the questions that parents wonder about.

You can see a detailed listing of questions we ask here: Interview Questions

We encourage parents to make a list of their own questions, if you have particular areas of concern that we do not address with our standard interview.

Research Fee For Child Update Report: $900 USD

Current Reduced Fee: $400 USD

Whether your child is in foster care or being cared for at the orphanage, we will contact the orphanage and attempt to make arrangements to conduct a personal interview with their caretaker(s) to ask the questions that every parent wants to know.  What is their story?  Who is caring for them?  What kind of care are they receiving?  What are they like?  What is their daily schedule?  Are they healthy?  These are just to name a few.  We will work diligently to get answers to all of these questions as well as provide pictures of your child, your childs environment, her caregivers and any other relevant photos.  We will also make our best effort to provide you with updated measurements so you can be prepared when you go to pick them up.

You will receive a PDF Report via email with pictures embedded as well as a raw picture files so that if you choose, you can print the photos individually.

Our turn-around on this service is usually two to four weeks, but in some cases can take up to 8 weeks or more to complete. In some instances where travel distance is great, or Staff of the orphanage may be sensitive to external inquiries of children in their care, more time may be required.
The number of reports we can accept each month is limited by the fact that we have limited staff, if you are interesting in getting information on your child without waiting until next months case queue we encourage you to act quickly.
